Six mighty geysers spew superheated water skywards amidst steaming fumaroles and bubbling pools
An estimated 10,000 thermal features are part of Yellowstone Park's gurgling terrain - be it gushing geysers, steaming pools, hissing fumaroles, bubbling mud pots or warm seeps. Six mighty geysers send water exploding over 30 m (100 ft) on a daily basis while other simply splutter and splash. The most famous is Old Faithful, a forceful geysers that erupts every 45 to 90 minutes. Geologists believe underground magma sits just 64 km (40 miles) below the surface of the Earth's crust in Yellowstone - hen the abundance of superheat water. Hot pools radiate a rainbow of colours, depending on the intensity of light. Visit in the quietude of May for the brightest hues of spring.
