Old-fashioned street parties spread  far and wide across the city

2nd September
Thank to Boris Yeltsin, Muscovites have a dedicated event at which to celebrate 900 years of glorious history. Introduced  in 1986 by Moscow City Committee, Moscow's City Day dominates the city over the first weekend in September. Festivities get underway with a patriotic Saturday procession that culminates in rousing speeches at the Kremlin. Then, it's time for frivolity as the weekend begins in earnest with street parties , fun fairs and music in every park and plaza washed down with copious slugs of vodka.
